Dear Brother Chapter 13+14 Summary

Eek! I totally forgot about posting the summary because I got so busy...but I promise to up the short soon (not sure if scanlators also did that one for the special issue). Anyways, since chapter 13 is up in Chinese scans, at least you'll get a clearer view instead of my crappy iPhone pictures. And reading the chapter in Japanese has made me realize my mistake! It's supposed to be Arisue instead of Arimatsu, lol. If you want to follow along, click here for the link. This chapter is shorter than others (because the author did the one-shot special).

The chapter opens with Momo telling Aoba to hurry so that they can go to the summer festival. Sougo isn't here...because well, he has disappeared for one year without a word to them. Although all the brothers know (Gin&Aoba) that Momo has fallen in love with him, they had never blamed her. Yet she wonders if she hadn't blurted it aloud, whether they would still be living together happily as siblings.

I now know that I'm not related to all my family members. I'm the child from mom's side and Sougo and Gin are children from my dad's side. Although all of us are related to Aoba by blood, I'm not connected to Sougo or Gin. Still, I'm living with Aoba and Gin, for we still want to live together as siblings.

As they walk towards the festival, Aoba comments, "Sougo-niichan even quit the job with that Arisue guy. He could at least tell us what he's doing now."

"Well well now," replies Momo.

Aoba has already graduated from university and is now in a special training school to take over the Suzuki family business. Meanwhile Gin is still taking care of all the family things, although Momo is still unclear as to what his real job is.

Aoba: Do you still want to see him?

Momo: Of course...but...

Got my hands on the issue!!

My dear friend was kind enough to help me pick it up when she was in the city! I finally get to read it in its original language! Below are just some pictures of the magazine- the first one is the standalone story that Enjouji Maki especially did for this issue, and then it's Dear Brother. I would love to read it and update right now but as usual tomorrow's hellish work schedule prevents me from doing so (or else I would not only feel like a zombie but look like one too). Look forward to an update soon!

Dear Brother Chapter 12 Summary

So I was really confused by this chapter, between Momo confessing and not confessing, and had to go back to the previous chapter to see if she actually admitted out loud that she likes Sougo. The "family secret" wasn't that exciting...I would actually say it's rather commonplace- but if you guessed that Momo and Sougo are not related, then you're correct! Anyways...on with the summary (or more like page by page line by line translation~ I've found that my summaries are getting less and less summary-like as I write). By the way, italics are Momo's thoughts (and yes, those are directly translated too!)

Starting from the last chapter...

Momo: Sorry...I fell in love with you.  I'm sorry...

His silence...scathes my heart.

Dear Brother Chapter 11 Summary

Ok...I am so damn confused by this chapter...mainly because of the panels with only the speech bubbles, which makes it hard to know who said what. And also because of this one particular scene where I'm not sure if Momo confessed to Sougo or not...but I'm finally getting a bit excited for this series (although it was nothing like Hapi Mari though where I hung onto all the beginning chapters eager to see how it turned out). Anyways, here we go!

The chapter picks up where Sakura (Momo's coworker) is desperately shaking Arimatsu for an answer as to where Sougo is. Unsure of the turnout of events, he asks for Sakura's name, to which she answers it's Honda Sakura. Momo hadn't paid particular attention to her last name before because it's such a common last name. But now she sees that Sakura was probably Sougo's adopted sister when he went to live with another family. Arimatsu eventually tells Sakura that Sougo lives with Momo now, and all three of them end up going to Momo's house.

Momo: Why are you still here Arimatsu-san?

Arimatsu: I told you before that I wanted to know more about the person I loved. Plus, Honda-sensei told me before that he had a very independent and reliable sister, but I had no idea that things would turn out like this.

Momo: I see...

However, Momo clenches her fist as she says this, inwardly comparing herself to Momo and how Sakura is probably the goody type who never causes anyone trouble. She's also jealous of the fact that Sakura had fifteen years to spend with her brother, but she only had little more than memories as a child. Meanwhile, Sakura looks around the house in wonderment.

Dear Brother Chapter 10 Summary

Finally moving somewhere! Although the relationship between Momo and Sougo is still going nowhere, there's a new plot development! I just hope that it turns out for the better in the next chapter~

The chapter starts with Gin and Aoba examining the scratches on Momo's face, which she doesn't cover up because she doesn't want to put any cosmetics on her wound. Sougo, who just entered the dining room, also is alarmed, but Gin tells him not to worry since it's a shallow wound that will heal soon. Sougo doesn't seem to be in high spirits, and as he leaves the house for work, he tells Momo that he'll help her reject Arimatsu. She tells him that he doesn't have to, but he insists.

Aoba: He's still stubborn as always.

Gin: Leave him alone, he's always like that. He'll probably never change.

At work, Momo tells Sakura (Momo's coworker) what happened at home.

Sakura: I thought you always got along well with your siblings.

Momo: Yea, but we get into fights sometimes too.

Dear Brother Chapter 8 Summary

We're chugging along, slowly but steadily I suppose.  This chapter is a little more interesting, but it still hasn't made me run out to the bookstore with a shopaholic's purchase impulse (for the first volume, or the second volume that should come out soon).  Anyways, on to the summary!  If you want to follow along (or just look at the pictures), click here for the scans.

Dear Brother Chapter 7 Summary

The chapter opens with Momo at Sougo’s bedside at the hospital, having obviously stayed the entire night despite there’s not the need to (as Sougo points out since he only needs a routine checkup before checking out the hospital).  Sougo insists that she go home, to which she replies she’ll come back later in the night.  Even Gin is a bit concerned that she’s going so often, but Momo reminds him that he had told her in the past it’s important to try to get back together as siblings.  Though of course, Momo too realizes that she’s not telling all the truth.  She reflects in the shower that she’s perhaps more afraid of being left alone and of losing her favorite brother (probably in more than sibling sense).

At work the next day, Momo’s colleague envies the homemade bento that Momo’s brother made her and laments her own situation about her relationship with her brother.  Momo’s colleague continues that their relationship worsened because her brother opposed her lover (which is much like Momo although she doesn’t say).  At the hospital, Momo sees Sougo talking to someone on his phone and, assuming that it’s work related, slowly retreats when Sougo reaches out for her hand.  She blushes out of reflex.  Sougo asks her to deliver a document to his office, to which she’s really excited about since it’s his first time asking a favor of her.

Dear Brother Chapter 6 Summary

We're taking baby steps in terms of plot advancement, but perhaps a big step in Momo's psychological world when she realizes that her attachment to Sougo goes beyond familial ties.  Again, there's the cliche accidents (why does someone always have to be nearly run over by a car?  Or in this case motorcycle)...which I honestly think can be done without.  It serves as a trigger for Momo's realization, but it's just not novel.  Anyways, on with the summary!   Notes: Italics near the end are Momo's inner thoughts.  If you want to follow the chapter, click here for the scans.

The chapter opens with Gin and Aoba crying out to their mom's altar, filing complaints about Momo.  While they argue, Momo suddenly realizes that it's their mom's death anniversary in just a few days.  Gin suggests that they all take a day off to go visit the grave together, which everyone but Sougo gets excited for.  Sougo says he's busy and that he'll visit on his own at another time.  When Aoba asks if he could do something about work, Sougo says that they'll understand later and goes off to bed.

Dear Brother Chapter 5 Summary

Chapter 5 is a slight improvement from the last, but it still doesn't have any answers about the romantic development between Momo and Sougo.  So I suppose all of that happens in chapter 6?  This chapter was more centered on family ties and Aoba, so that bit is refreshing.  For those who want to follow the Chinese scans, please click here.

The chapter opens with Sougo slapping down a bunch of omiai (matchmaking) profiles for Momo to choose from, as an apology for rushing her into picking a partner earlier in the last chapter.  Momo sarcastically thinks that the way to happiness through marriage is outdated thinking, but Aoba points out that she was the one who wanted to spend the rest of her life with someone else in the first place.  He suggests that even though the pictures may not fit Momo's taste at first glance, she may strike up a relationship with the guy once she meets them.  This brings up Momo's memory of Sougo's pretend kiss in the earlier chapter, and she blushes just thinking about it.

News on Chapter 6

I've been tired of waiting for Chapter 5 to come out (and it's still not out yet)...so curious, I went on to Petit just to see which series is going to be the cover next...when I saw this thing that totally freaked me out.

In bold orange, it says, "I love you.  Even not as a brother."
In pink, it says, "Momo has realized her feelings, but she has to keep them a secret..."'
Finally in black on the bottom, "Elder brother Sougo is a special presence to Momo.  Perplexed by her inability to lie to herself about her feelings, a person who knows about Sougo's 'past' appears...?"

OK...Chapter 5 better have some damn good explanations for this.  Because I'm going to drop it quick if they're real siblings.  On the other hand...I think it's a bit disappointing if there's just some simple excuse saying that the parents picked Sougo up as an orphan or something...

Sigh...I don't know what I want, but I honestly hope Enjouji Maki will make it good.

On another note, just wanted to let you all know that I'm still up for open collaboration for the novel translations.  Drop me a message, and we can work things out~

On the other hand, I just updated the food blog with a dessert post.  Click here if you want to read~

Dear Brother Chapter 4 Summary

I'm getting more and more confused about the development of this series...because I see a definite spark between Sougo and Momo, which is troublesome since they're brother and sister.  Unless some deus ex machina occurs later on to prove that they're not true blood siblings...I don't know if I can take it.  There have been many series of the brother falling in love with his sister (like boku wa imouto ni koi suru) that have floated around...but the premise of incest is too disturbing for me to look at.  Gin's reactions are very telling, and I think he knows something about Sougo that Aoba doesn't (or probably is too young to remember).  I don't know if this is merely his suspicion about the way Sougo acts or if it's some sort of secret he's hiding.  I'm hoping for the first (since secrets are so cliche and it's already been done so many times in Hapi Mari I'm getting tired of it).

Anyhow, I'll just go on with the summary and let you guys decide what to think of it.

Momo is sent to a branch office as punishment for her last incident, but she's optimistic about it.  After all, it's a place to start afresh and she wouldn't have to see her ex-fiance anymore.  Her coworkers are friendly, and she meets a woman named Sakura Honda.

She comes home to see Aoba eating one of her last popsicles and gets into an argument over it.  Angry, she decides to use the bathroom first and slams over the door, only to walk in on Sougo when he's changing.

Dear Brother Chapter 3 Summary

I'm so glad that they didn't have the December issue of Petit Comic in Kinokuniya when my friend helped me check...because I just saw it online today, read it...and...well, honestly I don't know where the story is going.  It's a bit contrived, and while we do focus more on Sougo...I don't see a progressive setup of the story.  It's a lot of pointless arguing again, and while I see that there are difficulties in restoring a sibling relationship such as one they had in the past...well...we're not moving anywhere!  Hapi Mari was quick to set up the plot and only later on did it start to drag.  It was chop chop chop.  Hopefully the next chapter will redeem itself....but anyways, on to the summary!

Again, I'm working off Chinese scans because that's all they have.  There are some lines I don't completely understand because well...it's translated into four-character idioms that are a bit obscure to me.  Anyhow, if you want to follow the images, please click here.

This chapter opens with Momo arguing with Gin and Aoba whether to make their omelettes sweet or salty.  While both brothers prefer salty, Momo insists on sweet since it was what their mother used to make.  Sougo walks into the kitchen wondering what all the fuss is about, having apparently moved in with the rest of the siblings since that night.

Flashing back...

Dear Brother Chapter 2 Summary

So I’ve been checking almost daily to see if the second chapter of Dear Brother has been released in Chinese scans yet…and after a prompting from Minchi today, checked again.  And the good news is they’ve finally released it!  So I’m able to provide a detailed summary.  Here goes nothing!

Momo wakes up in the morning, reflecting on what has happened so far regarding her brothers and the exposure of her fiancé as a fake swindler.  As Momo changes, Gin (her oldest brother) opens the door on her to inform her that breakfast is ready.

“What you’re awake already?  I thought you were still lazing around in your bed,” he says exasperatedly, completely oblivious to the fact that Momo is half-naked.

“How many times have I told you to knock before you enter my room, Gin-niichan?” Momo yells as she hits him.

“Wah…don’t throw the alarm clock!  The clock…”

Momo goes off to shower, silently reprimanding her eldest brother.  They’re hardly kids anymore, and it’s inappropriate.  Of course, this is when Aoba (the youngest brother) opens the door on her thinking that Gin was inside.  Naturally she throws a bucket of water on him.  As for Sougo (the middle brother Hokuto lookalike), he had declined to move in.  Gin and Aoba reasoned that while they were worried for her at first, they wanted to move in so they could repair their sibling relationship.  Momo naturally couldn’t decline with such a reason, and so Aoba and Gin decided to settle it with rock-paper-scissors.  Remembering that Sougo had taught her to do paper first in order to win, Momo puts paper…except Gin and Aoba uses scissors.  The two are overjoyed that they had won and that Momo was so naïve while Sougo just observed remotely.

Anyways, a few days have passed where Momo continually bullied her brothers (probably for walking in on her).  Gin and Aoba comically complain to their mother in front of the altar.

“Can’t we use another method to ‘repair’ our relationship?” Momo sighs.

Hi again

This is more like a status update, but I just checked Aerandria...and they already translated the first chapter of Dear Brother!  Ok, well they've translated it a while ago...so it may be old news for those that check their website regularly.  But here's the link!
