News Update

I know I've been bad at updating lately... the aliens have infiltrated my life and taken over, my puppy demands that I spend an inordinate amount of time playing with him (ok, he's 11, so not really a puppy but that's what I call him anyways) and the evil documents known as resume and cover letters are killing me. How do people even write these things? I would rather write a 20 page exogesis disseminating the relationships of God and John that can be extracted from only two sentences in a passage rather than pen one word of any sentence in a resume or cover letter (and I'm not religious, so that's saying a lot. Exogesis papers are absolutely torturous too, I regretted taking that class. The professor should totally have written "Needs to read the Bible and a whole lot of other boring critiques" in the course description, not just "examine aspects of love in literature". Examine aspects of love, my ass). Anyhow back to what everyone wants to know. WHERE ARE THE NOVEL UPDATES? Soon, and I promise to do the chapter summaries on schedule, usually in two to three days after I receive the raws.

Hapi Mari is ending the issue after the one that just came out (on my birthday too!) and it will become the main cover page. I've never seen a series on the magazine cover twice in a year between such short periods of time... ok, maybe shonen jump or something, but that doesn't really count. Meanwhile I'll go back to tackling the evil monsters known as resume and cover letter as I listen to my new Honeymoon CD (Yusa Kouji, yum yum) and hopefully make one novel update before the end of the week.

Love,
whisperpuppies

  1. Happy Birthday (?), Whisperpuppies! (Actually, I might have read that sentence wrong... or is your birthday coming in a month? Exciting! Exciting!! Nevertheless.)

Eww... I know what you mean about resumes and cover letters. Cover letters aren't so bad (they're like... personal statements... but without the "life story" type of narration). Resumes are the interesting ones... how do you make yourself look good on one page? It's just wrong. But knowing you (based on your work effort) and the fact that you speak multiple languages really helps you land a position. :) So I wish the best of luck to you on that end. POWER UPPU!! :D

    1. Aw thanks~ May 8th actually. Gosh, I wish...both documents should be illegal. Personal statements are ok to write, because you can be creative...and given the limits of my first cover letter, I was pretty damn creative...until I was told that cover letters don't really matter and I should keep it short since no one has time to read it anyways. And I'm stuck on what to put on resume's when I really have no experience to put...sigh, life sucks.

    2. Happy Birthday, Whisperpuppies! :D :D :D *Runs around in circles and throws confetti. May a myriad of good things come your way! Have a drink or do something fun with your friends, yah?

Are you sure you don't have experience, Whisperpuppies? Any volunteering... participation in clubs or groups (even outside of school)... tutoring... part-time work experience... internships... keeping up a website/blog (well, depending on what you want to share). Well, if anything, now is the time to make it up! You still have time to bulk up, so not all is lost. :) You are worth more than you think.

Again, Happy Birthday, girlie! :D It's great to know another May birthday girl. ;)

  2. Are you a May girl too? I wish I had something. I had to graduate faster so I did year round schoolwork leaving no time to fit in summer work or internships. And then to save even more money, I had to stay at home and commute, so joining clubs was hard since all of them held their damn meetings at 9pm or something...sigh, just thinking about it gives me a headache. I wish your words were true love, but thank you for your kind thoughts!!

    1. Yes. I'm a May girl too. :)

It's okay if you're considered "green", Whisperpups. Like arv mentioned below, turn your "weakness" into strength. One of the interview questions I received was, "What is your weakness?" So I answered, "I know that I may not have direct experience in [name of position], but because of that, I am willing to take feedback from both my [customers] and [bosses], and implement changes in my [work]." Lo and behold, I got the job a few weeks later. :D I seriously thought that I failed the interview, but see?! There's still hope! And again, you can always bulk up after graduating. :)

Anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN, WHISPERPUPPIES! Did you get your drink with friends yet!? If not... *hands over a glass of white wine.

  5. whisperpuppies, resume are not that bad. come on..... :D
have any working experience doesnt mean you will have better resume if that's not fit.
build your resume based on the position you want to get. dont be trapped in stating lists of unrelated experience/ talents.
for example, something as simple as 'i love photography' or simply as give a bit of artistic touch to the layout for positions require creativity is better than stating hundreds of unrelated experience.
dont have any experience? don't worry.... mention your hobby which you think is related and help 'selling' you *of course in a nice sentence*
    anyway...., good luck!

  6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Whisperpuppies hope you are having a great one and that you have many more to come. I know what you mean about writing a resume I had to do one a couple years ago and I hated it. But knowing and seeing your written skill here I think you will do fine. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GREAT BIRTHDAY!!!!!

  7. Happy birthday, Whisperpupps! And best of luck with those torturous resumes and cover letter. I feel you. My experience used to be close to zero too, so I'd rather hang myself from my pinky finger on the ceiling than try to squeeze something out of nothing. I did get this really good advice from a friend of mine, though, which I also applied in practice: depending what you're interested in, just approach the first small business activating in your desired field or one you feel you might benefit from on your way home and ask them to take you in for free, aka as a volunteer. My friend did so with a lighting warehouse after graduating high school. For the first months or so he was eating bread and water and now guess who's touring alongside major celebrities as a lighting engineer and earning 4 digits salary. I also got a temp position with a local bank. Don't give up! Just try knocking on each possible door, because you never know where it might lead you!

  9. Ouhhhhhh happy b-day Whisperpuppies !!! Are you studying Literature or something like that? =) Well the best gift for you will be a new single of your favourite seiyuu with a sexy talk xDD (Once I heard one and i got really red, it´s like his talking to you in your ears waaa). About Hapi Mari in Japan are more fans than another place in the world, probably Petit Comic´s giving fan service xDDD until this year.
